Douglas Motorsports Continues to Run Up Front
Douglas Motorsports Races Hard, Ends Weekend Early
El Cajon, CA (June 25, 2008) - Douglas Motorsports came to Crandon
to compete in the fifteenth edition of the Chairman’s Cup Race.
Before that epic event takes place, Scott Douglas and the team
must compete in the two rounds of door-to-door racing WSORR-style.
The race conditions were typical early summer Northwoods weather.
The mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70’s helped
keep the moisture in the track creating ideal racing conditions.
Bill Smith determined this would be the ideal conditions to try a
new brake setup on the truck, so some last minute changes were
made Saturday morning.
Saturday Round 3
The land rush start saw Scott Douglas and the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire
Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 start from the second row. As the group
headed out of Turn One, Scott moved into third place. About four
laps into the race, Scott really put pressure on the second place
Brasho. The two trucks battled for several laps, until the #7
AMSOIL Kumho Ford made a clean pass for the position. At the
finish, Scott proudly stepped on the podium in second place.
“We came back here, on our own, to be a part of the tradition that
is Crandon,” noted Scott Douglas. “The fans, the competition,
everyone here is a part of something special. Today were raced
clean, and came home second. Tonight we will fine tune our setup
and look for two more strong finishes.”
Sunday – Round 4
The PRO-4x4 race quickly became a two truck race between the #7
AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 and #4 Greaves. Scott
quickly grabbed the lead with Greaves trailing. During the race
Greaves got around Scott twice only to have the #7 AMSOIL Kumho
Ford get the lead right back. Then on the final lap, as Scott
headed down the front straightaway, his engine locked up, ending
his day, a half mile from victory.
Without the time to replace the engine for the Chairman’s Cup
Showdown, the weekend was over for Douglas Motorsports.
As the team was loaded up the hauler for the trip back to
California, Scott Douglas commented: “It was great to come back
here to race at Crandon. The atmosphere is like no other, the
people who live here, the fans that come to watch, all the
competitors that come year after year, the track, it’s a joy to
come here and compete. We didn’t quite have the results we wanted,
but we will be back Labor Day weekend for the BorgWarner. It would
be cool to become the first three-time winner of the race….The new
brake setup worked great. Now we will open up that motor to see
what caused the problem.”
Douglas Motorsports’ next race; July 26-27, CORR at the QUARRY,
Chula Vista, California.
Douglas Motorsports is attending the 35th Anniversary AMSOIL
Convention in Superior, Wisconsin, July 16-18, 2008.
