Scott Douglas Wins Chula Vista Round 8

El Cajon, CA (July 27, 2008) – Scott Douglas and his #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford  F-150 entered the race action in Chula Vista, trailing the CORR PRO-4 championship leader by nine points. Scott was looking forward to racing at his home track, just 20 minutes from his El Cajon home.

The consistency of Douglas Motorsports this year continued to pay dividends, as the team has finished on the podium in five of the six rounds of Championship Off-Road Racing; leading up to this weekend’s halfway point of the season.

This weekend was another first for off-road racing broadcasting. Both PRO rounds of racing would be broadcast on live television. The Saturday races were broadcast on SPEED TV, and the Sunday races on NBC Sports.

Friday afternoon was the scene of the first practice and qualifying sessions at Chula Vista International Off-Road Raceway for 2008. The # 7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford – F150 was fast right off the trailer. The qualifying time for Scott Douglas was 52.496 seconds, second fastest of the session.

Saturday - Round 7
The inverted starting grid put Scott Douglas on the outside of row two. Just moments after the green flag was waved, the red flag came out. Steve Barlow had a hard crash, flying end over end in the air, as his truck attempted to fly over the front straightaway table top. Fortunately, Steve was okay, but the truck was in need of serious repair.

The rolling restart saw Scott Douglas and his #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford – F150 hold its fourth place position, at the end of the first lap. After four laps, Scott is challenged by #99 Kyle LeDuc, but the attack ends as LeDuc rolls on lap seven. (LeDuc lands on his wheels and keeps going, but loses a lot ground to Scott.) Then, #3 Huseman, feeling pressure from Scott, came into Turn 5 too fast, and had to drive through the Hot Pit to avoid rolling over. This moved Douglas Motorsports in third place. After fourteen laps, Scott Douglas finishes Round 7 on the podium, in third place.

Sunday - Round 8
Sunday morning qualifying saw the grey and black AMSOIL Kumho Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 stop the clocks at 53.425 seconds, second fastest in PRO-4.

Quickly, Scott Douglas moved in behind the leader, #22 Greaves, as #3 Huseman was right on the rear bumper of the #7 Ford F-150. The top three stayed in this order through the mandatory caution on lap eight, and the full caution on lap eleven. Several times Huseman made a run on Scott, but the Kumho Tires kept Scott in second place. Then on lap twelve, the leader, #22 Greaves, hit the Turn 2 berm, hard, bending a tie rod and damaging his power steering. This put the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford – F150 into the lead. Huseman took one final shot at Scott, later on the same lap, but Scott thwarted his attempt once again.

Scott Douglas took his first victory of the year, and is just one point from the top spot in the PRO-4 Championship.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my crew,” commented Scott Douglas. “It’s the biggest reason we’ve been on the podium in seven of the eight races, and always qualifying up front all year long. The Round 8 win is the result of my crew. This truck has been solid all year. Saturday night the guys worked until 10:00pm checking and rechecking everything and it shows in our results. The track in Chula Vista is really hard on equipment. The track is really fast, yet it has many of the abusive characteristics of a desert race. Only the very best equipment goes in our Ford F-150. Our Fox Shox kept the Kumho Tires planted on the track, as the AMSOIL kept our ProPower engine and J & H transmission working at their best…It was great to win when NBC Sports was broadcasting live, in front of my hometown fans, just down the road from one of our great supporters, the Sycuan Casino. Having everyone here made the victory that much sweeter.”

The next race for Douglas Motorsports is CORR Pomona III, August 16-17, in Pomona, California.
